Country Save™ Powdered Laundry Detergent

  • Perfume & Dye Free
  • Biodegradable
  • No Optical Brighteners
  • No Fillers

This is the page that probably gives you, the military family, more info than you actually want ... but at least you know where to find it if you need it!

Country Save™ Corporation is 30 years old this year in 2007! We are the oldest "environmentally-safe" laundry brand in the USA and possibly the world. We are family owned, make our products in small batches to make sure quality goes into every box or packet and we are sure EVERY military family that tries Country Save will be surprised and delighted at the results and the quality of the product!

Your biggest challenge will be the first purchase when you decide to pick up Country Save instead of Tide™ or another well known brand. By the way, we don't bash other products but we will tell you some of the differences in our products on some of the other pages in this website!

Since we don't believe in mystery websites where you have to search for reasons to buy a product, here is a one page synopsis of what you will find:

Country Save™ & Elmer's Glue™ - our founder was their inventor first, back in 1947.

Made For The Military Member - gets uniforms clean without depositing OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS that are made to reflect light ... ok, what does a night vision scope do for a sniper?

Made For Spouses, Too - just because it gets uniforms clean doesn't mean it won't work on civilian clothes, athletic and underwear!

Made For Military Families - Kids are a big part of many military families and it works great on anything from diapers to grass stains on jeans!

Country Save™ Makes Your Detergent Dollar Go Further - when you make your financial decision to buy detergent, do you think the cheapest is the best? Do you think that a Tide™ 40 wash box has 40 scoops of detergent in it? Read further you might be surprised!

Send Country Save™ To Your Soldier In The Field - Country Save™ has packets of detergent that are soft, easy to open and easy to carry. You can purchase a box of 100 packets and send them to Iraq or any of the other places your loved one may be via an APO address.

Read The Box Before You Buy - 4 views of the box that you can read up close. By the way, we have had the US Flag in the window since September, 2001.

Country Save  Country Save™ & Elmer's Glue™ ... What Is The Tie That Binds?

Our founder was Elmer Pearson. Elmer was not only a pretty smart guy out of college with a chemistry degree, he was also a very talented baseball player! In the mid 30's he was hired by The Borden Company to be a bench chemist AND the catcher on the Borden Baseball Team that played other company teams throughout the Midwest in those days preceding and during WWII, and after. As a bench chemist it was Elmer's job to invent new products and it wasn't all that long until he created the first version of that wonderful product we all now know as Elmer's Glue™! Originally The Borden Company didn't have a better name for the product so they called it Elmer's! Our Elmer wasn't paid an extra dime for his efforts (that was his job!) and he left Borden's and subsequently moved to the Pacific Northwest. His expertise in adhesives allowed him to work with the US Navy on an all-wood, no metal construction for a PT Boat that wouldn't draw floating mines. Just for the record, he did not mind that the company later named "Elsie's" mate Elmer and created the marketing direction of today!

We want to make sure, for good housekeeping purposes, that everyone understands that Country Save and Elmer's Glue have NEVER had any ties of any sort, commercial or non-commercial, and we do our best to re-count history as opposed to trying to ride the coattails of a larger company. Elmer died back in the 1980's and his wife is still a shareholder of our company. She is in her early 90's at this time!

Country Save  Made For Military Members!

When we talk about our detergent being "Made For Military Members" we really mean that we have always made our detergent in a way that would be compatible with cleaning clothes while living in barracks or living in a tent doing laundry in a 5 gal pail of water from a nearby stream. First off, a little goes a long way. One of our scoops is 2 oz. That is enough to do a normal load of clothes in a top load machine using 12-14 gallons of water. Secondly, whether you do your laundry in a pail or a washing machine, our detergent dissolves completely and rinses completely out of your clothes without leaving residue or a scent in your clothes, military or civilian!

What we consider to be the MOST IMPORTANT issue beyond cleanliness and not smelling like a perfume store, is the use of OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS by virtually every detergent available on the shelf of your commissary, your PX or perhaps the detergent used by the laundry unit in your own portion of the military.

OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS are designed to be deposited in every piece of clothing and the PRIMARY REASON for this is to REFLECT LIGHT! The other detergent companies across the board (without exception on a recent 2006 commissary visit) have always used this ingredient to artificially reflect light to make clothes look cleaner than they really are ... after all, if it reflects light then it must be clean, right?

Thirdly, the answer is NO! Here's one for you ... you are on a night mission and you have the blackest of black clothes on and the party whom you are tracking has a night vision scope ... all he or she might see is the little "sparklies" that reflect light in your clothes but they can't see your whole body ... perhaps they just aim for the biggest clump of sparklies and it could be your leg or your chest, who knows? NOW do you care about OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS?

If you think we are joshing you, just take a portable black light and go into a darkened closet and turn it on ... See the sparklies? If you can see them, your enemy can see them. If we can read a license plate or newspaper from 22,500 miles away, we believe that there is a night scope that can find you. If just one of you becomes an enemy target because someone wanted you to be so clean you could reflect light, that is one too many.

Lastly, without trying to raise alarm bells and get all crazy, we are simply saying that Country Save™ Powdered Laundry Detergent gets your clothes clean without perfumes, OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS and you actually get 40 scoops of detergent out of a 40 wash box!

Tide™ gives you 16 scoops (and OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS) in a 40 wash box ... more about that in the next section!

Country Save  Made For Spouses, Too

This is a short section to address Significant Others of a military member if they are not also actively in the military. Whether you are a husband or a wife supporting your military member, you most likely are trying to do the best job possible for him or her. We believe it is in the best interest of both parties to offer a product that will get your clothes clean, rinse completely in one cycle (do you pay for water either at the Laundromat or at home? Probably!), is perfume & dye free (you can add a dryer sheet if you want a scent on your clothes as a civilian) along with all of the other attributes of Country Save™ such as being biodegradable, 100% phosphate-free, gentle on sensitive skin (the most battle-hardened soldier can have sensitive skin), low suds formula and best of all, Low Cost Per Wash!

Back

Country Save  Made For Military Families

We address the Children as a whole because sometimes parents cannot imagine that the same detergent that gets work clothes clean can be gentle enough for new-born babies and younger children. They might be prone to chemical sensitivities or simply have sensitive skin that has not been hardened by life experience.

Country Save™ is designed to be user friendly to all because it is designed be an effective detergent for cleaning and then rinse completely out of your clothes leaving no residue (check out the Lab Test section). This means that if you wash out your new-born's pj's, day clothes or diapers (or diaper covers if you use a service), you will not be subjecting your child to detergent residue or designed-in perfumes left over on the clothes.

Lastly, if clothes don't have residue left in them, they last longer. It isn't nuclear science ...if the clothing fiber is not rubbing against anything except other clothing fibers, your clothes will last longer ... that's it, period!

Country Save  Country Save™ Makes Your Detergent Dollar Go Further!

Ok, this is the interesting part because you probably already know what we are going to share with you. Country Save Powdered Laundry Detergent is a 5lb/80oz box. We declare on the front of the box that you will get 40 loads of laundry using a TOP load washing machine (that means you get 40 FULL SCOOPS) and 80 loads using a FRONT load machine. If you do the math (your commissary price divided by 40 or 80) you will get a REAL Cost Per Wash from Country Save™! ... and it will be less than all other detergents on the shelf!

Let's compare with Tide™ Powder since they are the biggest and most successful brand in the history of laundry detergent. We might as well compare with Goliath since all of the other brands try to copy Goliath in one way or the other ... except Country Save™!

Tide™ Powder in the 40 wash box is now 70 oz ... 17 oz LESS than it was last year at this time. On the side of the Tide™ box you will find the wording (don't worry, it is on all Tide™ boxes and most of the other competition also):

"This box contains 40 medium loads as measured to the LOWEST LINE ON THE SCOOP".

or something very similar to that. How many of you have ever used Tide™ and only used the lower line? (My guess is very few of you!) THERE ARE ONLY 15 (FIFTEEN) FULL SCOOPS OF DETERGENT IN A TIDE™ 40 WASH BOX.

Just to clarify the declaration a little more (you could do this yourself but it might be a little messy) we can share with you the following information since P&G did not change the size of the scoop when they lowered the number of ounces in a box:

The "Medium" Load Line (the lowest line on scoop) measurement is 2.1 oz or 33 washes per box.

The "Line 1" Load Line (the middle line on the scoop) is 2.7 oz or 26 washes per box.

The "Line 2" Load Line (the top line on the scoop ... but NOT a full scoop) is 3.6 oz or 19 washes per box.

And finally, if you actually wanted to get 40 loads out of the 40 wash box you would use 1.75 oz of detergent which is BELOW THE LOWEST LINE ON THE SCOOP!

You bought the box based on the 40 wash declaration and you got 15 scoops of detergent and went back to buy more ... so it actually costs you 2.5 times as much as you thought it was ... .assuming you used a full scoop each time.

Once again, we are only showing you the comparison in packaging and what you are actually buying. We are not saying anything negative about the product itself ... but wouldn't you rather know exactly what you are buying?

Lastly, many of you, including me, grew up with a Tide box in the laundry room. We are not saying that any of you made a mistake or that your Mother made a mistake. We are trying to point out in this new day and age of knowledge, that sometimes you think you are buying something and it just isn't packaged so you know what it is really costing you! After all, this is a big expense over a year and you might as well know what you are really buying and spending ... that's why Country Save has been around for 30 years selling value and quality!

Why does the Country Save™ 80 oz box get 40 full scoops? First, our scoop is only 2 ounces, not 5.2oz so we do not encourage you to use more than you should. Second, you may ask why we only use a 2oz scoop. This is actually a question that is answered by how we make the product. Bulk density is a measure of the weight of a product in a cubic foot. Our bulk density is about 73 lbs per cubic foot and Tide™ is about 39 lbs per cubic foot. Tide™ simply has more air in because that is how it is made.

(And just for record, we are not making any statements regarding the quality of Tide™ or it's effectiveness as a detergent. We only talk about facts ... they have OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS, we don't ... they put a scoop in the box that is 2.5 times bigger than the load declaration they make on the front of the box, we don't ... Country Save™ weighs so much per cubic foot and Tide™ weighs so much per cubic foot ... all facts that no one disputes.)

Tide™ is not alone in the way they approach you as a customer. Virtually all other companies do the same thing. You simply pay more without realizing it ... another fact!

Lab Tests Done By Third Party

Country Save™ is proud to show you the results of a recent test performed by Sterling Laboratories, of Sylvania, OH, an independent lab. Experience tells us the accumulated build-up of undissolved solids in your clothing is responsible for many skin irritations and the accelerated wear that many types of clothes demonstrate after months of washing. You may draw your own conclusions from the test results below. Country Save™ Powdered Laundry Detergent has been formulated to leave virtually no un-dissolved solids in your clothing.

Lab Report From:

STERLING LABORATORIES
SYLVANIA, OHIO

PROJECT: Solubility Swatches /CS-00089. 5 swatches total are shown.

TEST: To show un-dissolved solids in each of five different
powdered detergent products when mixed with water per manufacturer's
specifications for a full load of laundry. Each sample was then
processed through Japanese Black Cotton to catch solid materials.
